Modern-day Syria and Jordan are both countries with rich histories. But you don’t have to scratch too far under the surface to uncover that heritage. We’ll see this for ourselves at the Roman excavations of Palmyra and Jerash. We’ll see it at Petra, the fascinating old Nabatean city. And we’ll see it in the wadis and crusader fortresses, in the bath-houses and oriental bazaars. These may be the lands that time forgot, but the impression they’ll leave on you will be indelible.
